Already taking Pre-calc, now school is requiring the new AP Pre-calc as prereq for AP Calc AB

It what our school is teaching this year instead of intensified. College Board just released it. It is a full year course at our school. How does a school cover the content in one semester with the test in May?


There are schools that do "full year courses" crammed into a semester. So in fall you take APUSH and spring you take AP Eng. I don't agree with it, as I cannot imagine taking AP Chem in a semester or AP Calc in a semester is the right way to learn the material. But schools do this approach

And yes, if he wants CS/ENG it is best if he takes AP calc in HS. He will need 1 year to 2 years of Calc/Diff EQ if majoring in CS or Eng. Best to get a strong foundation in HS


Do you think it would be okay if he ends up just taking Honors Calculus, in the event he is unable to get directly into AP Calculus AB from his regular pre-Calc class?
