This is about what we pay. I would describe it as more expensive than rec sports but similar in cost to things like ninja classes. My kid who does taekwondo has no interest in team sports, so I’m glad they’re found an active activity that they enjoy. |
| It was way more expensive than i expected once we got past thr free intros. And the payments for new belts is a lot. We stopped after 6 months because it just felt like pay to play. |
Different schools are different but mixed TKD is often more chaotic and louder than "regular" TKD. Yes, kids (and adults) are expected to yell loudly at the appropriate time but other than that it should be orderly and structured. Occasional loud yells in a silent room are a good use of energy and control, for kids and adults. |
| We are looking for a martial arts program. We were asked to pay $350 per month for two sessions per week, with a 6-month commitment. It seems expensive — what do you think? |
| My son goes twice a week for 1 hour. He is 6. One of these times he goes right after soccer and right before swimming. It’s not physically tiring, but kids need to pay attention and memorize movements. I think it’s great by the way. We do it for discipline and focus, not for fitness or learning to fight. |
Forgot to say that we pay $275/month in NW DC |
That seems expensive to me. We pay just under $200 a month for 2 classes per week. Location is suburban MD. I think I was one of the posters from 2023 and I think it’s gone up about $20 a month since then. |
| OP- your 7yo is already in 3 activities/week. |
| 50 minutes, 2x/week 150$/month. 3x a week is maybe 20$/month more, but we don't have time to take our kid 3x a week. |
| OP here: We were also surprised by the 6-month commitment. My son is 4, and we’re looking for something with less commitment and a bit more affordable, <200 per month in NW DC. Any recommendations, please? |
