In that area. I guess I should note the list is that high, they are not all sold. Still, two families with young kids nearby have each put $10 million plus into real estate projects in the last couple of years. |
This. Also most people who do well see this success later in their careers = older age, so at most they'll have kids in upper school, but not many with younger kids. Notice you never see any toys outside at such houses, or even a playground set in the yard. We have kids in lower school and there just aren't that many at the top of the income bracket, yet. I was surprised that our $5k annual donation was treated in such high regard (invitations to join comittees, etc), but then I realized there aren't that many in lower school who can afford that, and the parents in upper school "age out" soon when their kids graduate. |
The few ultra rich we know send their kids to the smaller private schools that seem more nurturing. I don’t know where they will go for high school. Over the years, I have met children of rich families who are not impressive at all in any category. They are adult children who depend on their parents. I think it is a bit sad actually when they rely on grandparents for tuition, home and they basically have an allowance from their trust fund. |
And exactly 2 sales above $10 million in 2022. |
The ultrawealthy don't care if their kids can hack it. |
lol, no. Development admits still get in. They just don't feel the need to saddle their kids with a miserable high school experience |
And It's quite possible (in fact probable) that these are the only 2 families with young children at that price point in the District, if not the entire DMV. There are single digit transactions at this level across the entire DMV each year. Just because you live in the epicenter of the wealth bubble does not make it commonplace. |
I'd love to be sad in that kind of way. I'd trade being melancholy on a beach in the south pacific for my commute in a heartbeat |
Not everything is on the market right now. |
No, I know a lot more than that. The ultra wealthy are not flaunting it. Most probably won’t stay here much longer though. Farms, Montana ranches and Nantucket compounds are calling. |
| 100% agree with Landon poster that the $6-8M homeowners are, like the rest of us, sending their children to a range of local private schools for all the reasons listed here’s by other parents. And, yes, there are plenty of ultra wealthy at Big3/5 too. It’s just a range. What I’m calling BS on, however, is that there is any statically significant number of such families sending their child to publics IN THIS AREA (looking at your Beverly Hills poster). Do not believe that that is happening in this area for a single minute. |
Actually, it’s 3. I just recalled another. |
Yeah that’s exactly the UMC striver set we are talking about. The biglaw partner types. |
Bullis in Suburbs and Sidwell in DC. |
| Holy Child in Potomac has an extremely wealthy student family population. |
