Not by the age of 10!

Around 8 DC goes to shower by themselves. Makes themselves a snack. We then watch 15-20 min of a show together while they’re having their snack. They brush teeth and then head to their room to read. I usually come in to say goodnight, cuddle for a few minutes, and lights out.

This DC is very independent though. My youngest is a different story. Age 6 DC has a parent helping for an hour with shower, brushing teeth, reading, cuddles, etc. I could imagine maybe still needing to do more of a routine at 10.

^^sorry that’s confusing. 10 yo DC, starts bedtime stuff around 8.

My 9 yo showers, gets PJs on, and brushes teeth independently. She still likes me (mom, but not dad) to come up for snuggle time, "worry time," (to discuss the day's worries), and maybe reading a few pages of a book. Then she will read independently until she is sleepy and turn her lights out. So, I am needed for about 15 mins of the routine.

We've been doing this basic routine for years. I know this won't last forever, so I don't generally mind it, and it also tends to be when anything that's on his mind from school or whatever comes out.

PP here to say that I don't enforce a lights out, just a time when I leave the room. DS reads until he's tired.
