Teach me how to do a parent-teacher conference (I'm a parent)

But I've never understood why there's not a spring conference to see how the kid has progressed over the year. Anyone know?

We have spring conferences for this purpose. We're in DCPS.

I teach HS, so a little different. I agree with PPs that the most important thing is to just listen to the information. You can always follow up with the teacher later. If you have a concern, email the teacher in advance to let them know you want to talk about X. Just please please don’t go on and on about your kid.

I let the teacher talk and just listen. I don't usually have any questions. Mine haven't had any issues and I prefer to not even have a meeting or get it over as soon as possible. I have more important things to do and I'm sure the teacher has problematic/struggling students they'd like more time to address with those parents.
