| I babysit extremely boring litigation matters as in-house counsel. I spend about 2-3 hours a day working and have a lot of flexibility to handle home organization and kids activities. Make about $400k in a good year. |
Mind sharing public/private company? That sounds cush apart from maybe the boringness of the work lol |
| Of counsel in biglaw. 15 years out, but newish to firm life. Hot practice area. Mid-$300s, but stressful hours, culture, and bizdev expectations. Wondering if I'd be better in house. |
Large public. Yeah it’s great. It took me a while to get over the feeling of wasting all the great skills and experience that I built up. But now that I have, I hope I never get promoted or asked to take on a new role! |
Dream job! |

GS-15 government lawyer. 15 yrs out of school so $~175k.
Love the work, love the low stress and good work-life balance. Disappointed the pay has dropped well below even 1st year biglaw associates. With new hires having to kick in 4.4% of salary to FERS, being a fedgov lawyer just isn’t that great of a deal (apart from the sense of mission and interesting work of course). |
Doing better than me. Same type of job at the SEC - not litigation specifically but babysitting - for 225k. I probably work about 5 hours/wk. Haven't yet gotten over the fact that I'm wasting my time and life but I guess unless/until I figure out something better I'll take the money and benefits. |
Same. But I guess with pension, no student loans, 3% mortgage, maxed tsp, healthcare for life, and stability, I think it's totally a worthwhile tradeoff. At a firm, there were stresses so omnipresent I didn't actively think about them, even though I was stressed all the time |
This does sound good. After being the litigator, babysitting litigation matters seems so much more ideal. |
| Legal nonprofit and make $145k. |
| Financial regulator. Over $250 a year. |
So $251? |
I think they’re comparable since it’s literally impossible to get fired from the SEC and you have a decent pension. A law school classmate has this gig at a regional office and I doubt she’s brought a case in 5+ years. |
| Consultant, work PT and make 180k |
Seems the OP who keeps asking the money question does not realize you need consecutive decades and top experience to get that pay. |
