Annoyed by super ambitious coworker

Just remember a few years after retire then next generation isn’t going to remember you or your coworker.

Except for OP, who apparently did not do this

She said she made her own. I took it as her knowing just not putting her skills out there for her coworker world to see. I could use the annoying BS phrase “she didn’t lean into it”, but I won’t.

You want advice ..... here it is ...... you need to work 16-hour days also. Duh!

Why do you have to be number in the boss’ eyes? Some bosses have different pets each week and it’s better just to do your job very well and not play into that game. Especially the type of male boss that has a different pretty, ambitious favorite each week.

I felt this way for years. No need to do this. Smarter not harder.

I was feeling pretty good about my career progress until I discovered that she is several steps ahead of me in getting noticed and developing influence. Our team recently started using Asana and while we were all figuring it out and learning to use it, she jumps in and decides to be the Asana expert. Now she is creating templates and boards for everyone. And our boss is eating it up.

I’m so annoyed!! I don’t want to use her templates as I make great templates on my own!

Sounds like you're equally if not more competitive as she is.
Read your post again -- you're just as ambitious and just as competitive.

Op here. Yes I am ambitious and competitive so that is why I am annoyed. I want to win, too! And I am annoyed she is beating me at it.

I am asking for ways in which, I can shine too!

How about you team up and become the dynamic duo? Life doesn't have to be a competition. We achieve more with team work.

Yep. I had a coworker like this—much better at self promotion than I was. Got TONS of praise for doing the same crap everyone else was doing, but bragging about it. She moved on to greener pastures. That was her goal anyway.
