It's important to take a picture of the other car's license plate, the damage on both cars, the person driving the other car, pic of their ID and insurance card, also get info and/or take pics of witnesses (before they take off which they usually will fairly quickly) and the intersection or surroundings. I get that this is not always possible but it is the ideal and should be done if possible.
As an example, I know someone who got rear ended at a slow speed on Rte. 50 in Fairfax during rush hour. They both got out of their cars, other driver gave my friend insurance company name and their own name, cars were driveable so they both drove off. Turned out that was not their name and they did not have insurance. If my friend had gotten a picture of the license plate, the insurance card and their ID and the other person they might have not had to pay themselves. Also, witness info would have helped. |
