What age does perimenopause hit?

How do we really know? My cycle has been odd since 40 (heavy flow, more unpredictable cycles, menstrual migraines) but now at 48 it’s really getting weird (2 periods in a month weird). My gyn says that means perimenopause is probably just starting for me. In addition to other tests to rule out scary stuff, I just had some hormonal testing and she confirmed I’m perimenopausal. She’s saying I’ll be menopausal in like 4 years.

For my mom it started in her late 50s and my aunt had hot flashes into her early 70s. 😳😬

I’m 45 and my cycles are more regular now than in my 20s and 30s (I had kids pretty easily at 36 and 40 and it seemee to regulate my hormones), though they are lighter and I do have ovulation spotting now sometimes (I also have a fibroid).

The main difference where I notice something is definitely going on is that my skin is nowhere near as oily as it once was, and I don’t break out as much. I have been a lifelong acne sufferer.
