This. Go hiking if you want to see animals in their habitat. Read a book if your kid is board. Put them into an activity if they need to socialize.

Plant a native perennial pollinator flower garden. Add a bat house. Not everyone needs to have a pet that lives in the house.

Don’t recommend tortoise. It was such a pain to go to pet store often to find live mealworms.
