I found this: https://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/2613870/jewish/Jewish-Soul-in-a-Non-Jewish-Body.htm |
I've definitely heard the Jewish soul thing before, but I don't think it's specific to Chabad. |
We don’t evangelize, so this analogy doesn’t apply. |
DP. 1. We're not "beggars." 2. Yes, there are many commandments in Judaism to love the convert and not oppress the convert. In other words, to treat the convert the same as a born Jew. |
| Visit the Fauquier Jewish Congregation in Warrenton for Shabbat services, but don’t start with high holiday services, they are usually full and require tickets to attend. Better to start with a more low key service. |
💯 They're also longer and pretty intense. It would be like checking out Christianity for the first time by going to an Easter service. Packed house, lots of once-a-year church-goers, intense sermon about death and salvation. Go during Sukkot instead (September 30). It's fun and there are palm branches to shake. |
| Agree re the fun of Sukkot--also, Simchat Torah (Sat. evening 10/7). Kudos for having the courage to ask questions (Judaism is all about questions!!!) and beginning this journey, wherever it might lead! |
They were very welcome to my son, who is half-Jewish (mom’s side). |
Just to add - he was raised without religion (beyond defers and family gatherings), and they were very accepting. |

Great suggestion. Reform Jews are very welcoming of non Jewish partners and generally want them to feel included in the community (sorry if the previous poster made you feel unwelcome). Jews as a rule don't proselytize- I believe Chabad is just trying to convince more progressive Jews to be more observant, not convert non Jews. |
