You have to build on what you do like together- for some of us marriage was never easy and it is deliberate.

For example, if you and your DH liked parties/fun perhaps you could have learned to dance, or begun entertaining together, or traveling together, or cooking together. For a lot of people partying is the start of their relationship, but you can’t really party when you are 30, 40, 60, 70 the same as you did in your 20s.

So true. When we got together we had nothing in common and had to figure it all out. We tried lots of things before we found what we liked together.

Yup. DH and I have so many differences. I am a nerdy introvert and he is a non-nerdy extrovert. We found we both like taking walks, entertaining people in our home, dancing, watching tv and movies and documentaries, going new places, doing activities with our church. I found it’s ok if things aren’t “easy” but you have to still find things to do together.

We just started refinishing furniture together. I started doing it as a hobby and he joined in helping me with any woodworking aspects of a project.

We have been watching this cooking show where the chefs go all over the world and eat different kinds of pizza and we have been making pizza every Friday, using some of the ingredients they have shown. we have gotten really into it, experimenting with different kinds of flour, etc.

During the Pandemic, we wanted to learn a new hobby so we bought a still and have been making various types of brandy out of all the fruit from the fruit trees in our backyard.

We also learned how to tile our laundry room in our fixer upper country house.

Do all the hikers repeat hikes? If not, how do you find new ones and are they far away? We like hiking but I get tired of researching new ones and DH doesn’t want to drive far to start the hike, so it gets old.

Surprised we're the only geeks here so far, but we play video games and board games together, and watch TV or sometimes movies. We also do home improvement/DIY projects together, like redoing a bathroom or building a working arcade machine. On "romantic getaway" type vacations, we have done skeet shooting, tree climbing/ziplining, off-roading, horseback riding, archery... but that's max once a year or so. We're both mid 40s.

We repeat some hikes when we don’t want to drive super far (often do Scott’s Run, Prince William Park, Sugarloaf Mtn, Sky Meadows SP). Otherwise we pick different stretches of the AT and its spurs. If you have AllTrails finding new hikes is easy.

We hike locally (usually Shenandoah, sometimes repeating hikes) but we also hike on vacations out of the DC area.

I admire the couples who do home improvement together. We outsource anything house-related and I imagine it wouldn’t go well if we didn’t. We have zero skills and zero interest. Wish we did!
