Looking at my DC's report card (non-Magnet MS), Historical Inquiry subjects are marked as GT or HONORS. The sequence he took were as follows: 6th - Historical Inquiry Global Humanities 6 7th - Historical Inquiry Global Humanities 7 8th - Historical Inquiry American Studies As an incoming HS for the Magnet SMCS program, his choices for 9th grade are Honors US History or AP US History. |
| Definitely AP USH. Do not do Honors, super easy. |
yes, this is the novel they read in 8th: https://www.amazon.com/Never-Caught-Washingtons-Relentless-Pursuit/dp/1501126393 |
Do all the Global classes across MCPS read the same novel in 8th? |
| Or a website that discusses the 'Historical Inquiry' courses and the amount of reading, writing, projects required for the three years. Is the Ona book the only one they read in 8th? |
I have heard of at least two schools use the novel cited above but unsure if all the MS use same book. |
If you knew anything about Ona Judge, you would understand that her story illustrates a lot about the experiences of enslaved people during the early history of the US AND tells us some things about George Washington’s character that have long not been discussed in public schools. |
The 8th grade course isn’t Global. |
And he went to extreme efforts to try to capture and drag her back. So much for valuing liberty. |
There is a second novel for second semester, but I am forgetting the title. We have found the social studies sequence that starts with 6th grade Global Humanities to be good, both from a strong teacher standpoint and also a group of kids that are more interested and engaged. |
The PP probably meant the 'advanced' track for 8th grade which is the track of the Global class in 6th & 7th. |
Our kid read Ona Judge first semester and reading Refugee now. |
So not just that he couldn't tell or lie and liked to cut down cherry trees? |
These books sound unamerican and would be banned in FL. |
Got off this board, you person from FL! This is MD and proud of our book selections! |
