Call the transportation center for your school
See school website for number One argument you have is safety. Low likely to change Worth a try Oh and they can have you walk up to a mile to the bus stop. |
Leaving aside the discussion of whether AAP should exist, OP's best option is to explain there is no "safe route" to the bus stop.
While many kids walk more than 8 minutes to elementary school, technically that is only meant to happen if there is a "safe route." Kids who do not have a safe route are routinely offered bus service even if they are technically within the walk zone. |
There’s so much wrong in this post, but nothing is more egregious than using the term “general population.” I guess PP thinks those children are in prison? At least she seems to think they are. 😒 |
I know that this is the norm, but one of DD's friends (in MS) has a bus stop that's 2 miles away, and she's at her base school. Parent has no idea why they eliminated their regular stop. |
Sigh. My son catches the bus on a main road that is a mile from our house. Just walk them there or maybe don't go to the AAP program. |
+1. Bussing for AAP is insane. |
OP, Curious as to how this was resolved, or not? |
Not resolved! We contacted transportation, two emails, talked to the person to explain the situation. We sent a detailed map, showing where there was no sidewalk/crosswalk. We were told they'll get back to us but nothing - I know it's a busy time of the year though. We are not too hopeful. I am driving my kid to school in the morning and drive to the bus stop in the afternoon... For now that's the safest option, I would not walk that route myself...

Lots of parents drive their kids to bus stops, especially for middle school since the stops are far apart and its so early in the morning. There is nothing unusual about having to drive your kid to the stop. You honestly sound like a PITA. They aren't required to have sidewalks to get to a bus stop. Many neighborhoods don't have sidewalks. |
