Nah, not having the latest gadget or what everyone else has builds character. |
So just being able to function in a modern world. Remember, other than a phone it’s a newspaper, calendar, wallet, car key, emergency device, etc. |
Just buy them an iPhone. Do you want to isolate them and make them weird? |
I think Apple Watches are the worst for kids because they are wearing it and don’t turn it off. During school, this turns into a huge distraction. THe phone is put away, put down etc, but the watch is strapped to your kid. We are phasing phones into our lives. Our kid as a wifi only iPhone. If needed, he can get on public Wi-Fi, but that is extra steps so he at least has to think about how much of an emergency it really is. If it is a real emergency, he should be dialing 911 regardless and satellite coverage should kick in. |
Really don't get parents who buy their kids iphones of all things. Even if you get the a smart phone, it doesn't need to be an expensive iphone. |
School time feature on the watch solves the school fidget issue. |
Have you asked teachers about that? Because as a teacher I can say the watches are distracting. |

I have a 7th grader. He doesn’t know one kid, actually only one kid, who doesn’t have an iPhone. |
you can get a flip phone with Tracphone. My DC uses the flip phone at sleep overs and when at practice for sports. DC will not get a real phone until later. |
Rich parents are nuts. I won't even buy an iphone myself. Had one once and it wasn't so much better than an android to be worth the cost. |
