What you don’t seem to understand is that we are not ashamed of being queer. You can’t shame us into pretending that we don’t exist. Opinions like yours are the very reason why it is important for our leaders to be open about their identity. We are not going to hide in the shadows to please your delicate sensibilities. |

What PP doesn’t get is that most people don’t care!
If I am having a conversation with someone and they mention their girlfriend, or their boyfriend or wife, or husband, I can infer whether they are straight or gay lesbian. If I am not having a conversation with someone about those topics, why do I need to know what their sexual preferences are? Feel free to live your life. There’s no need to broadcast your relationship or sexual preferences. |
When you lack the skills to accomplish anything meaningful in office pushing your identity is all you have left. The goal is to make people think they have to vote for all these LBGTQ candidates - Frisch, Lady, McDaniel, Cohen, etc - because to do otherwise makes you a bigot. I don’t care if Frisch is gay. I do care that he’s an idiot who is wasting tens of millions of taxpayer money on a totally unnecessary school in Dunn Loring. And I don’t care if McDaniel lusts after men even though he has a wife (she might but that’s a different story). I do care that he doesn’t seem to have any original ideas of his own and just parrots Laura Jane Cohen’s talking points. |
Meh, he is not even a real queer - just a bi-queer. Don't get your panties in a twist. |
Then say what you want but also deal with the consequences of your reception. Some will eat up your announcement with a spoon because it flatters their self-image, some will be put off. You may or may not find you need the people you are putting off. |
Also the "identity" thing is only a few decades old. This was a fairly recent development in intellectual history and could well be supplanted by some other conception in the future. On this thread, for whatever it is worth, you are hearing some of your fellow DC-area parents at least suggesting they are not interested in the "bisexual identity" argument from people not committing the act. |
You and be married and have kids and still be bi. |
Bisexual people have always existed. |
So have heterosexual people but neither qualifies one to be an effective member of a school board. |
Has Kyle been going around telling people "vote for me because I'm bisexual?" Haven't seen it. |
So why did he make the announcement? |
He just made the announcement. He will have a half rainbow flag on all of his campaign literature. |
