Seriously—where can I move to not deal with mosquitos?

Yes, I’ve lived in different parts of Oregon and haven’t had mosquito problems. DC area, I couldn’t step out for a few minutes without getting bites all over.

Denver!

lol! NOT!

Lived in Maine for a dozen years, half of them coastal the other half inland. The mosquitoes in Maine are sparrow sized and if they don’t chew you to pieces, the black flies will. Maine is most definitely NOT a flying biting bug free place.

I grew up in FL and also in the deep south- mosquitoes are worse here in VA. It's a combination of a lack of spraying and weather that's a bit rainy. In FL they spray because otherwise it's a health issue with West Nile, Malaria and encephalitis.

DC area has terrible mosquitoes and ticks. Scientists need to work on getting rid of them.

Houses in Spain don't have screens in the windows.

Do not move to Maine! I live in Maine and get hundreds of bites every summer. Cannot even use our deck after sundown. Ugh.

OP again. Thanks for all this food for thought. I live in a row house neighborhood so even if I spray it doesn’t matter because the neighbors don’t. And the amount of spray it would take is probably pretty toxic, especially since I would need it five months out of the year.

I always think of the al fresco dining and gardening in inland Italy and France. Are they spraying in, say, Tuscany? Or just a different climate?

New York City
the Southwest
Places with lots of spiders, snakes and frogs

But I've been and lived all over the country and DC has the worst mosquitos of anywhere outside of Alaska.

You’ve obviously never lived in florida or the Deep South then. Much worse than DC.

I was born and raised in the DC area, lived there most of my adult life as well, but have now also lived in two different areas of Florida, east coast for six years and SW Gulf coast for three years.

There are mosquitos in Florida but they are much worse in the DC area than anything I have experienced in Florida.

You probably lived in Orlando or Miami where they nuke mosquitos from helicopter spraying.

Uh, no....I lived nowhere hear either of those cities. Are you at all familiar with Florida? SW Gulf coast is not near Orlando or Miami.

I lived in Louisiana and the mosquitoes are way worse in DC. Although I assume I lost several years of my life based on the number of times they sprayed from crop duster planes and it sprinkled on me.

I’m from DC but have lived in denver for 13 years. I’ve literally NEVER seen or worried about mosquitos here….until this summer. We’ve had a wildly / uncharacteristically wet summer (we hit our annual rainfall average a couple weeks ago!) and suddenly there are mosquitos here. It’s driving us all nuts, I hope it’s a fluke!! I’ve never even bought bug spray since I moved here, until a couple weeks ago

Bay Area but they do get them further north toward Sacremento

I’m in LA and probably have had 5 mosquito bites in 20 years.

I have no idea where pp got the idea that Maine doesn’t have mosquitos. If you are standing on the actual beach and the wind is blowing, they won’t bite you, but walk around to the inland side of the house, or let the wind stop blowing for a second, and there are clouds of them.

Maui! It’s the only place I’ve been in ages where i could actually sit outside and enjoy myself! Particularly around wailea/Kihei which has very low rainfall…

Moving is not a silver bullet. Mosquitos are spreading. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/07/health/mosquito-zika-yellow-fever.html

Call a mosquito control company. They will help you understand what species of mosquito you have (there are many) and how you can trap or repel them. Here’s some info on traps. https://www.mosquito.org/page/traps
