Should my kid cancel an AP score of 1?

Theoretically if a college required submission of all AP scores on the record, then cancelling still complies with that.

Can you just wait and see if a school requires that and then cancel before submitting?

Yes, but you need a few weeks for the cancellation to take effect. We chose to cancel as soon as DS got the low score, so as not to forget.
His MCPS transcript did not mention anything about AP exams, just the classes taken.

The valedictorian of Jackson reed admitted to getting a 1 on an AP a couple years ago. It happens.
