We have a minivan. I don't care about "image", it's a way of transportation.
2 kids and a dog and it feels like we can fit half the house in the van when we go on road trips. Now that kids are older, I love being able to drive carpool without ever thinking about "do I have enough seating space?" Retired grandparents moving close to us, soon. Plenty of space for 2 kids and 2 grandparents in the minivan. I was on the fence when we made the decision about the van. Now I love it. If someone offered me any free car in the world tomorrow, I'd still pick a minivan (for this phase of life). |
I once saw on I-495 a Honda Odyssey with flames painted on the side. I assume they were being ironic. It did make me laugh. |
Minivan: pragmatic, has children
Subaru: likes to think of themselves as rugged and outdoorsy (although actual levels of rugged outdoorsiness vary wildly) |
Minivan: pragmatic, has children Subaru: deeply susceptible to marketing FTFY |
We have a forester. We spent 2 weeks driving an ascent as a loaner from the dealership while they were trying to figure out an electrical issue in the forester.
We’re planning to purchase a minivan. |
OP, you must live in CA….
Maybe SoCal. Where car is king! Lol! |
The minivan is so much more useful, space wise, if you have little kids, like to travel or camp, carpool, or have 3+ kids. |
We have a pilot and so wish we had the odyssey. Sadly we had parking constraints and the shorter length pushed us to pilot. |
Hey, don’t forget about the lesbians. Lesbians have owned the Suburu market for 40 years. Love, A lesbian and her Outback |
I love my Ascent. I am not outdoorsy, do not want to be, and do not pretend to be. But my outdoorsy brother loved his Subarus so we decided to check it out. We have two kids and a dog. I dislike minivans. |
I have an Outback and regularity have bikes, kayaks, boards and skis strapped to the top. Not all of us are just faking it.
It’s great in the snow. If l didn’t actually use it for those purposes, l would have a lower and smaller car, but never a mini van. I only have 1 kid. |
haha, in high school i had a friend whose parents gave him their beat-up mini-van, he painted flames on the side and called it Van Halen. |
I have both! I absolutely love my Honda Odyssey minivan. It's not cool. I've had it forever. The first time I buckled in the kids standing INSIDE the van because it was pouring rain outside, I fell in love. Kids are teens now. It's not a perfect car (doors after many years have all kinds of sliding problems), but I would not hesitate to buy it again. Bought a Forester mainly because the van was too big for commuting, no rear view camera, A/C finally dying, and I love my Forester! (Except for auto stop, but that's a whole different thread). The Forester is not cool either, but I love it and at 5" 1' feel confident driving in it with few blind spots, adjustable seats, and back up camera. |
What issues do you have with Subaru? I've had mine 12 years now, parked outside the whole time, it's still going strong. |
I have a Subaru and would skip it. It’s a nice interior and drives well, but it’s a huge gas guzzler!!!!!! Shockingly so! Also I’m having funky issues with the electronics. |
