If you have them around and it’s only for a short period while they’re playing.

Yes, my second grader still loves the pretend play games at recess. It's great, and even more great that if her close friends don't want to play pretend, she finds other friends that do. They prefer to act out whatever book/TV/movie characters they're into at the moment. I believe now they're doing Spiderverse and being different Spidermen characters with different "bonus" powers.

9 yo son and his BFF's favorite film is the Jungle Book, the original Disney film that is. Last weekend when she was sleeping over at our house the re enacted the fight scene between Baloo and Shere Khan at the end. He was Baloos and she was Shere Khan, it was hilarious.

My kids love all kinds of pretend games like this, but DD in particular loves being a dog and will attach a leash to her wrist or clothes and ask to be walked around the house.

I once leveraged this willingness to play such games when wife was out of town on a work trip for over a week and I was exhausted and they were worked up and I was struggling to get them settled for bed, so told them we were going to play a game called "graveyard" where we all had to pretend we were dead. If you moved or talked you lost, and whoever was the stillest won. They were both out within minutes. It only worked the once, but it was worth it.

DS 10 and his group of friends still love Just Dance. It's the first thing they do whenever they're over. Will just get youtube up on our TV and they pick their dances.

They also still enjoy pretend games like kings and queens, pirates and they reenact fairy tales. They're very creative and imaginative kids.
