I live in Portland and would not suggest here--it's a raging dumpster fire at the moment. Seattle probably is too, but it's very beautiful, so I'd still consider something in the Seattle area. I might consider the NE too. In theory the SW but climate change and water shortages are real, so I'd ultimately decline putting more strain on their ecosystem.
Portland really is a hot dumpster fire. Voters should sue the city for mismanaging their tax dollars. |
Ouray next to Telluride is a lot cheaper and yet gorgeous. My vote is the Virgin Islands! Like Hawaii but much, much cheaper |
| You have the ability to test a bunch of location before you settle on one. I would take a year and travel the country (avoiding the Southern states). |
| Either somewhere with good weather and hiking, somewhere I could have a few farm animals and a garden, or a cabin on a lake. I agree with PP to travel around. Visit like 6 places and see which you like best. |
| The greater Seattle area. |
| Mendocino or Bainbridge Island. (I live in dense, urban DC.) |
| OP you should start a "journal" here and keep us posted on your progress so we can live vicariously through you. |
This sounds amazing. OP- Do this and keep us posted so we can live vicariously! |

I love the beach, so I would look for a low-key (not too touristy) walkable beach town. I prefer the Caribbean.
|
I would also prefer a place in the Caribbean than the US. |
I’m so envious of you. Good luck! And - probably Falmouth Foreside in Maine. |
Oh please. That’s ridiculous. Portland is awesome. You’re probably just some dumb MAGA. |
|
I would live in Manhattan (avoiding mid-town) so either Lower East or Upper West sides. I would get membership at the MET and all the other museums and galleries and spend my week visiting them and getting carry out from bodegas.

LONG BEACH?? Are you out of your ever living mind? I live in the LA area and let me tell you, LB is a place you move out of and not into. |
