Are you kidding me? If the child has a disability, she needs an IEP and accommodation. That's not an excuse for her to fail her classes. If your child gets a D in MP3, you need to stop and assess what the problem is. OP, admitted they didn't. THEN, after getting a D in MP3, OP is here with two days left in the school year asking if she can ask her to teacher to bump the failing grade to a D for her daughter just because. This hasn't nothing to do with ableism and everything to do with accountability and being a responsible, engaged parent who monitors the academic progress of their child. |
| Hola, soy Dora! |
Is that from OP? |
Not at all surprised. Teachers are under pressure to not fail anyone especially in a required class. |
Please...she is receiving a D, which is basically an F. She should retake the class, period. |
D means she gets credit for the class so it is very different. She never has to take Spanish again. |
In our MCPS high school, there are 32 students in FL. The teacher is good, but has to spend a lot of time disciplining out of control adolescent young men. The FL language department is the least organized in the school, so it is hard for students to manage class trajectory. I am glad the OP's student is getting a D rather than E, but both the student in this case and the system have problems. Definitely retake Level 2, Level 3 only gets harder! |
| You really do not want your daughter moving on to Spanish 3 with any of those grades. Have her repeat 2B (and maybe 2A). She will be better positioned to succeed in 3. |
Only 32 kids in the whole high school are taking a language? |
Not in MCPS. D = passing so she's set. |
| I wonder if this kid is in my son’s class. The teacher is a really tough grader. He is mostly trying and is really smart but ended up with a C and did have a D for a while. The unit tests are worth a lot and are not retakable so if you bomb the unit quiz either because you didn’t study right or you weren’t feeling well that day, it’s hard to come back from. I talked to the teacher and she just has high expectations, which is fine. My kid has straight As otherwise. So people shouldn’t beat OP up so much — there are some isolated teachers in MCPS that are still grading like it’s 1985 and unfortunately these kids have never learned how to study. |
I think PP meant 32 kids per classroom. |

| OP is she going to retake this over summer or what? |
