Financial help you received/gave to your kids?

Both DH and myself had college paid for by parents. No cars or houses. We are doing the same. They also gave us some money towards our wedding (about 1/2 the costs from the brides parents and grooms parents covered rehearsal dinner). We have also put aside $$ for weddings for our children

Parents helped what little they could with college. I had work study, ~$10K in student loans for my 4 years, and I worked every summer/break/moment I could get to pay my portion of college ($4-7K/year over the 4 years).

Parents contributed $3K to our wedding, we paid the rest.

Paying undergrad in full for our kids (full pay, $60-80K schools), will pay grad school as well if/when they decide to attend.
Kids had a new car to drive in HS and take to college in Junior year. They get to keep this car as their first car when they graduate---so they should be good until 28-30 before they need a new car.
Will fully fund their wedding. Will likely gift them money for downpayment for first home when time comes, might as well since we can't take the money with us. Will likely pay for grandkids college as well

My kids will be receiving nothing like this amount, unless I get very lucky in investing, bc while I have an advanced degree and earn in the mid-200s I don’t have the financial wizardry that my ancestors did.

What if that money is spent on elder care?

It probably will be which is why my kids won’t be receiving what I did.

Have you thought about looking into Medicare trust fund?

Don’t know what that means.
