There's a reason why the incumbent politicians loathe this proposal so much: it's a direct threat to them. DC has a long track record of fractured opposition to unpopular electeds. That would translate to incumbents losing with RCV. There's a very real chance the DC Council will look different if this passes. Which is why I look forward to voting for it.

Brianne Nadeau should be absolutely terrified of RCV.

If RCV can help us get rid of Brianne, I will happily sign up to canvas door to door in favor of switching to it.

All semi-unpopular incumbents (Bonds, Bowser, Mendelsohn, Nadeau) will be threatened by RCV because it will limit the extent to which they can split the opposition vote, but I think RCV will make the most difference in primaries without an incumbent. These are generally a complete farce in DC. See Ward 2 in 2020 and Ward 3 in 2022 for examples.

The DC DSC has had a bunch of unforced errors under their chair, Charles Wilson. He seems like a sensible guy, though, so I can’t figure it out.

RCV in last year’s Ward 3 primary would have been fantastic. Frumin is such a dunce.

I don't think it would've had the result you think. There was quite evidently a great deal of crossover Frumin support from erstwhile Duncan/Bergmann/Cohen supporters. With RCV, Frumin probably would've won by an even wider margin.

Goulet is widely seen as a joke, and rightly so.

Erstwhile Cohen supporters. Thanks for the laugh.

Goulet has certainly become a caricature.

The DC Dems look terrible opposing ranked choice. I think they are just worried about losing control of council which has way too many encumbents and is going too far to the left. I have lived here for 25 years and I don't know anyone who wants extreme prgoressives. Ranked choice might actually get us some common sense, centrist candidates.

No the DC Dems are opposing because they know RCV is racist

Please explain. I am genuinely interested in reading why you think this.

Cohen is the mascot of Ward 3 white privilege. Notice how he only attacks Black politicians but slurps Allen and Nadeau. Wonder why.

So are we voting for this? The initative language has a big caveat at the end:

“This initiative will not be implemented unless the DC Council separately chooses to appropriate funds for the projected costs.”

I’m not voting for it. Sticking with the devil I know.

That doesn’t make any sense.

Seriously. I plan to vote for it. I think this would really help, and I can't wait to register as an independent again.
