Look at Olney - schools are great - communities are great (I was the PP that lives in Damascus). It's quiet and not as busy as some of the other communities in MoCo. Poolesville is good too - like Damascus in the fact it's spread out, but the Magnet brings a lot of diversity into the high school.

I second the Olney recommendation. Gives you the small town feel you might get in Damascus but definitely more on the liberal end of the spectrum and better diversity than Damascus.

Better diversity? Do you mean better in that its more diverse, or better people from that racial pool?

Bc Damascus is pretty diverse. In fact, double the percent of black kids and MORE than double Hispanic, compared to Poolesville.

Its just not the kind of diversity you want, right?

Oops, meant to reply to the one recommending Poolesville, not Olney.

Lol the only diversity in Poolesville is the size of the horse farm.

OP...lots of places in MoCo have jerks. And no, Damascus is NOT very diverse. It's 73% white according to the last census. That's not diverse. I've lived here for a long long time. Poolesville is more academically diverse. Meaning you actually have more students who are academically focused rather than sports focused.

DO NOT PUT WORDS IN MY MOUTH - you know what they call people who make assumptions? Yeah that's you.

Well, assuming your the PP that said Poolesville has "better diversity", I'm not putting words into your mouth. You and I both know that when people say "diversity" they are talking about racial diversity, not "academically diverse", whatever that means.

And while Damascus may be 73% white, its only 40% of the student population. Black and Hispanics account for 42% at Damascus HS while they only account for 18% at Poolesville HS.

So I'm still not sure what "better diversity" means in your post

NP. Re-read the earlier post. It said Olney has "better diversity" than Damascus. The comment wasn't about Poolesville.

I suggest Poolesville or Olney far over Damascus is moving from DC.

If you actually read the posts - DHS is not that great of a school as far as academics go. It's small. Has only a few special programs. It's a local high school - football is king. You won't get anything extraordinary there. But in Poosleville, you get the space AND a better academic experience. Not hard to understand I didn't think. The school - if we are talking about diversity - most schools in this county are diverse culturally/racially/ethically. The county itself is incredibly diverse. But there still are pockets where racial issues abound. Damascus is one of them. Racist asses live here and influence the local culture - especially during home games.

lol So is Damascus IMO - but if I had to choose, I'd choose Poolseville in a heartbeat. At least you can be further apart from each other.

Just me personally, I would choose Clarksburg over Damascus. Clarksburg is more diverse, closer to 270, and stores/restaurants/groceries. Depending on where in Clarksburg you buy, your kids will go to Clarksburg HS or Seneca Valley HS. Both are decent schools. They don't have the name brand as Poolesville or the Ws; but both offer far more programs than Damascus. Both are big enough schools that your kid can find their group. Moreover, if your kid is smart and has a good head on their shoulders, they will do well in either school.

Parts of Clarksburg may be rezoned to Damascus HS in a few years, when their addition is done.

And that’s really going to be interesting to witness. You think families didn’t want to go to Seneca during the last boundary study and that was a brand new Hs. They would choose Seneca everyday and twice in Sunday over Damascus.

Hallie Wells MS is already split articulated between Clarksburg and Damascus. Maybe they'll just send the whole school to Damascus.

Clarksburg resident here whose kid is zoned to Damascus. There is a small section of Clarksburg that is zoned to Cedar Grove, Hallie Wells, and Damascus. I hope they rezone before my kid gets to high school.

Another plus one for Olney. Damascus is full of mom-cliques at the sports scene and far too many narrow minded folks. Another nice area is Laytonsville but your kids will go to Gaithersburg HS. Some are ok with that if you feel you can keep your kids on the right path and in the right classes (away from “trouble”)

Half of Snowden Farm ES is also zoned to Damascus.
