Carpenter bees driving me crazy

why are they called carpenter bees?

They build their nests in wood. However, you'd need a huge infestation to cause damage to wood. We always get some out back by our deck in the spring, but they use the same holes year after year. Also, they don't like painted wood so if you want to discourage them from using something, just paint it.

They are not like termites -- they don't eat the wood, just build nests in it. We have a regular bug guy who does preventative work around our house every year and he always checks on the deck and has told us he would not worry about our carpenter bees. They are terrific pollinators and are not considered pests unless you have such a large volume that they are boring new holes every year. They are good for your garden.

And they are really only around for April, maybe early May. It's a pretty short season. As bugs go, they are pretty harmless and actually very helpful.

They may not eat the wood but they destroy it to make a hole.

BFD?

You’re an idiot.

The only idiot is in your mirror. We have loads of these guys in our yard. I speak from experience that they are no big deal.

Op here. We’re going to be putting our house on the market. I cannot have them bombarding people. My mom won’t even come to my house because of them. I’m trying to read outside and I’m counting 17 bees flying around. They noted holes right into our freshly painted patio cover.

So you have no experience of them damaging your home. Thank you for cementing that you are in fact an idiotic idiot.

See if you can figure out using the internet a Safe way to remove them from your property but it borders on unethical to kill pollinators.

If they were causing damage to your home or another structure of yours, you wouldn’t like it and would try to prevent it. You know it and everyone else knows it. You are nothing but disingenuous and a liar.

It's really bad around here. Every spring and fall I can't go out on my balcony as they are everywhere constantly. Not sure why they seen to be way more aggressive here than anywhere else I've ever been. Never had a issue like this. Too many bees and not enough things to pollinate around here? Don't know but its nuts OP I feel you.

Thank you! I encourage and plant all kinds bee friendly plants. But I don’t want the holes in my wood and the gross voluminous yellow poop stains that run down my siding. I’m glad everyone else on here is happy with their carpenter bees but we’re going to have replace our porch railings and some siding because of this.

We have 4. I’ve tried the bag trick. It’s not working. One of them is like a little drone… he turns and watches me, when I get in the car he looks right in the windshield. Hate them.

This is America you’re allowed to kill the bees if you want to. Stop with the lame excuses.

I mean you definitely CAN go out on your balcony. They’ll just buzz by your head a bit. You’re choosing not to, it’s not like the carpenter bees are a threat to you.

That’s exactly what he’s supposed to do! Aren’t you impressed by his bravery? I find them so charming. Like stupid but brave little Knights.
