California lost more people in net domestic migration (-871,000 people) than any other state over the past two years. The numbers were only kept up pre-COVID by immigration, legal and otherwise. |
I get it, but the usage fee will drop a lot as much of that cost shifts to the fixed "delivery" fee. |
Exactly. Too many people cutting the cable cord, they just raise the price of internet. |
+1 This makes much more sense |
| I predict that about two years in it is determined that the formula used to calculate rates was incorrect and all rates go through the roof to make up for the “unexpected shortfall”. |

I read it.
The issue is this equity stuff will spill over into everyday life. Yes, It seems the bills are written to charge more for people at higher income levels. So basically the richer people are subsidizing the lower income people. Kinda like taxes are now where Rucker people pay more income taxes. But this is a utility. So is the future that the more people earn, the more they will have to pay for electricity, gas, heat, tolls. Where does this end. So what’s the point of working hard and being successful if you have to pay more for it as an equity punishment. Maybe Blacks and Native Americans should not have to pay at al land let all the white people pay for everything ??? |
Don't most places have a way to help families in need? Our utilities company does. I think it's a great way to give back to the community. |
Because wealthy people still live more comfortable lives despite having to pay taxes. |
|
Meh, I'm OK with that. Make it a needs-based discount plan available. If you want cheaper electricity, you apply and provide the proof. Just like discounts on after school child care.
I can afford to pay full freight, not going to begrude a grandma on a fixed income a lower rate than mine. |

"what’s the point of working hard and being successful if you have to pay more for it as an equity punishment."
LOL OK, answer this. Would you rather continue to work hard and be well off, or would you prefer to slack off and qualify for cheap electricity? Which scenario do you think represents a higher quality of life for you? |
People are fleeing La Jolla? Really? I just did a real estate search and a studio apartment is 445 k. Let me know where I can sign up for a La Jolla abandoned property. |

Reason CA is losing population: Housing is too expensive.

| As a poor person I would love to pay less! I rarely pay more than $100/month, most often it’s around $50, but less is even better |
Uh, everyone would love to pay less. |
Have you never opened a Washington Gas bill? You have the option to contribute to help others in their time of need here too and have had that option for years. I’ll never understand you people. Fighting government support as “socialism” and then also attacking private charity. It’d be a real shame if you were forced to choose between paying your water bill and affording your medications like many seniors, or to be forced choose between new shoes for your kids or the power bill. |
