I just do not get Americans and team sports. With team sports, you do not have flexibility in scheduling in practices and matches. Your schedule depends on many people and multiple factors.

My parents put me into individual sports such as golf and tennis. When I was young, my mom took me to the driving after school and I took lessons or practice for two hours. I didn't have to rely on anyone other than my mother to drive me back and forth. The same with tennis, I took private lessons and the coach had me practice with other students of his. When I competed in tournaments, I got in touch with players from tournaments and practiced with them when we were not competing. The schedule worked out great for both myself and my mother.

Now that I am a parent of two teenagers myself, I am pushing them into individual sports so that the schedule can be much more flexible. That's a game changer, IMHO.

OP stop looking for trouble. Most of your concerns seem to be your own anxiety.

Tennis can be a team sport. My son plays on a JTT team and his school's high school team as well. No, you are not playing as a team (except to the limited extent that you play with another player during doubles matches), but there are team practices and the matches occur at set times that the team (or at least the top 6 players) participates in.
