OP here - my question is, what is an appropriate rate for a housekeeper/nanny combo? I’m not trying to take advantage or permit job creep. |
$50 but it’s an impossible task unless your kid is in school part time. Otherwise they need to be focused on your child. Hire 2 people. |
when I watch my own child, I hardly have time for anything, how can I expect a nanny to be more able than I am? |
Housekeeper/Nanny Combo 1 child $35 You should also have the maids/cleaning crew twice a month. |
$50 for Housekeeper/Nanny combo. But is she a nanny or a governess. There is a difference. Governesses care for children over age 5 up to age 14. |
You want a nanny or housekeeper? Nanny needs energy |
Agree. And while upping the pay may attract a lot of candidates, it doesn't guarantee "energy." Sometimes a FT nanny and a PT helper might result in better results. |
Nanny here. I have no housekeeping duties in my contract but if I see the situation is getting dire, I can quietly do things and never mention them but I am sure MB noticing them anyway. The thing about being nanny, you get to see that your employers are more exhausted than I am most of the time, so it is not a big deal for me to take garbage out or put leftover dishes into dishwasher, even just to facilitate my own cleaning needs as I need empty sink to clean after baby. It is not a big deal for me but huge help for them since their tasks seem to be endless with 2 young kids and a pet. I am paid about $35 per hr but even if I were paid less I would do the same thing. |
You sound like a nanny with a great work ethic, and I'm sure your employers do notice. |
When we had a nanny, our unspoken contract was that everything related to the child was outsourced to her. So: childcare, meals, laundry, keeping his room and playroom clean. Never ever anything at all for the parents. But: we were lucky to find the person who did not need to be told what needed doing. She just looked around and figured it out. If she needed anything for the baby, she just gave me a list and I ordered everything. |
OP, what your nanny does sounds fine to me. no deep cleaning expected from a nanny |
Sounds reasonable. I wouldn't expect more, but seems like a good balance. |
Does your nanny cook for your child? Like real cooking, for example making simple chicken soup with the ingredients i provide? I want to ask her and tell her to help yourself as well, so it sounds like a good deal to me...I am still hesitant since I never asked her to cook before though she volunteered couple of times to make something simple like mac-n-cheese. |
No, our nanny does not cook. Only warms things up. First, she is not a good cook. And second, I don’t want her to spend time cooking while alone with a toddler. Since we don’t ask her to do that or clean the playroom, we instead ask her to fold the family laundry, which she does in front of the TV during naptime. |
