I would think twice about it because I would then be written up in their books and they would be wondering what I did to cause my adult child to commit a crime.

On the other side of things, if they were violent with me or the other living beings in my house, I might have to.

But they could be violent outside your home and you’d protect them because they might write about you in a book?

But they still did the right thing. It’s just what regular decent people do. I’ll never forget his mother describing how when he was a very young child, he had to be hospitalized for a long time. She said after he came home, he was never the same.

Being in early childhood development, it seems like he was horribly abused or neglected during that hospitalization.

Unconditional love does NOT mean enabling. It is a very stunted view of love to not understand dynamics including enabling, codependency, etc.

You should hear from parents of adult children with serious mental illnesses. Parents get zero help from medical or police until there’s a violent crime. Hospitals are all about the “treat and street”.

You do know and older Alexandrian man died at the hospital two years ago? He’d been arrested and left untreated by Alexandria authorities.

I’d probably not report my kid for some crimes. It depends. You all are in la-la land if you think the government will help an adult with substance or mental illness.

Theodore Kaczynski was also a child prodigy who was bullied attended Harvard as a young age and as a minor was tortured by a professor working on CIA's psychological warfare research.

Like so many victims of abuse, he paid it forward to other easier targets inatead of back at his persecutors.

Refusing to report your kid is an ethical choice if you believe thetaw enforcement as it exists is immoral, but your philosophy should apply equally to non-family/friends.

I am good with that, since I don’t believe mental health conditions are managed properly by courts.
