Are internships drying up?

CS is seeing a decline - IT and Security are being outsourced to other countries for pennies on the dollar. Too much supply, not enough demand.

Terrible advice. Don’t teach your kid to accept
More than one offer on the chance that one of them will fall though. Because he’s knowingly leaving the company with an issue if it doesn’t fall though and he ends up picking the one he wants to stay with.

Hey, it is a dog-eat-dog world. When companies pay a price with on-campus recruiting...or better yet, stick to their internship commitment, then kids can be upstanding about job offers. I mean, internship programs are for 3 months...it is a minor expense for these companies in the scheme of things. If anything, they can make it 2 months instead of 3 which still gives the kid valuable experience.

But, until the day that companies act with integrity, they literally set the example for the kids...that their offer didn't mean anything and you have to look out for #1. Karma is a b***h, so it might come back to bite the kid in the ass. However, this idea that you owe a company anything...absolutely no.

Don't listen to that mom - that kid is making a bad name for himself/herself by screwing over the companies - the purpose of internships is to build a name for yourself, and that parent is teaching their kid to do the opposite.

My kid landed an internship in December for this summer. Great role with corporate housing. Current sophomore. Among their close friends, 2 of 4 have landed internships. I think it’s a combination of luck hustle and grind. Internships are out there but summer is fast approaching, so those kids who want one need to send like 50 resumes out this week.

Now that it's seen as exploitative to have unpaid interns, a lot of internships have disappeared. My department no longer has unpaid interns and will not budget for paid interns.
