The fentanyl dealer who sold fentanyl to Whitman student Landen Hausman pleaded guilty today: https://www.wusa9.com/article/news/crime/maryland-man-pleads-guilty-to-selling-fentanyl-leading-to-the-death-of-a-teen/65-d613efc0-128e-4126-b797-a4477209e69c
A reminder that Landen's cause was high profile because his father went on a media blitz to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs in our schools and among teens, especially with regard to social media. |
BCC parent here. Grateful to the family for being open about the death. It could have been any one of us. BCC or Whitman aren’t any better or any worse than any other school - public or private. If you believe that, you are naive. Talk to your kids early and often about drugs, addiction, mental health and building friendships and setting boundaries. Make it clear you are a source of correct, non-judgmental info about it all and that they can come to you. Pay for assessments, psychiatry and therapy - earlier rather than when they’re in trouble. |
| Every HS in the country has drugs, amd any parent who thinks otherwise is delusional. You have to keep open communications with your kid, make sure they know your family values, and hope their friend group doesn't go down that path |
I think "open communication" is not the solution here. No kid, no matter how good of a relationship they have with their parent, is going to openly announce that they're experimenting with drugs. The better advice is to be vigilant and to not give your kids too much privacy, especially with the phone. Drug use is usually found out by looking through your child's phone. |
