They can sell the 10k car for 10k in a few years too. Would cost them nothing.

Was there yesterday. Used Buick with 18k original miles for 9k. Apparently sold quick

How many miles did it have. if you don’t mind my asking?

It was about a year ago so I don’t remember exactly—maybe 120K? Not ideal but it was a rushed buy after the vehicle he had been driving (our old 2011 sienna) was totaled and he needed a vehicle. I found the listing on FB marketplace. We did take it to the Toyota dealer for a thorough inspection before buying.

Another DCUM post showing a) people with money pay less for things in the long run and people without money pay more for things in the long run and b) the complete lack of understanding in DCUM-land that people without money exist.

I'm starting to look for my son and I'm thinking about a Kia Soul. Cute but practical little car he could get quite a bit of use out of.

Doubtful. Junkers don’t last forever.

Also like the RAV4 idea, could get one with ~100K miles for 10k.

I see a 2012 Honda civic with 120k miles for 13k on Carmax.

Use that for a few years.

I don’t think you can get a safe car that cheap.

I love Subaru, but at that price point lots of those vehicles have major issues like transmission and engine failures. And 4wd just means that there are more parts to wear out/break. OP, you can't go wrong with a Corolla with under 150k miles. I would try to buy from a private party, but it's slim pickings, as everyone is selling to dealerships or Carmax.

Can you just define what you mean by “great Honda Civic”? How many miles and what years would you consider “great”?
