MCPS should bring back finals and midterms

MCPS has been dumbed down for about a 8 years now, even at the ES level. My oldest was taking weekly spelling and vocabulary tests, spelling bees, geography bees, daily reading groups, and advanced math starting in 1st grade. Middle child occasionally got a spelling test (no vocabulary) and occasional reading group. Youngest never had one spelling test, no vocabulary, no bees, no advance math except 4/5 combo option starting in 4th, and no reading groups.

This is totally wrong. MCPS does not even have full year classes. Are you sure your kids go to MCPS schools?

Stop being obnoxious. You know damn well that most people think of the class as a full-year class even though it’s divided in two by semester.

No one thinks of Algebra 2A as distinctly and fundamentally separate from Algebra 2B. It’s just seen as part 1 and part 2 of the same class.

I disagree. Instead I think they should have more project based and inquiry based learning. I do not believe in the value of cramming for an exam. That approach is all about memory and not understanding.

My kids graduated MCPS without midterms and finals and went on to be successful in college.

But you get two final grades and semester one grades have nothing to do with semester 2 grades. SO in the sceanrio above the kid would get an A and a B.
