Flying British Airways? I believe that's the only European airline still offering first class to Europe from IAD.

No, delta from ATL.

Three times what I expected.

Yep, we scrapped a planned trip to the UK this summer for the same reason. Really bummed because we had been discussing it in front of the kids and they were excited. Flights to Healthrow were $1300 and I was expecting $700-800 if we were flexible on dates which we were. It didn't matter.

It has been years since I’ve seen sub-$1k tickets to London in any normal (not Play or other fly by night budget airline). Honestly for this summer, a nonstop from DC or the NE for $1300 seems like a pretty good deal. Under $1K was never realistic for summer travel. Sorry.

That first line should be sub $1k nonstops in summer - it is pretty common to get that in non peak times.

Delta has never had an international first class product. Of the US airline, only American does and it's on a very small number of their 777 fleet.

Lufthansa has international first class on it's 747-8 that ihey fly between Dulles and Frankfurt. And Air France offers international first class on some of its 777-300 flights from Dulles to CDG.

PP clearly meant business class which for most non-frequent travelers or people that pay attention may as well be business class. It is the big seats at the front of the plane. Chill out.
