FCPS does not want to acknowledge their policies have much to do with families paying for better schools.

Tell your daughter she should be thankful. Some kids in the county have already had this for 2.5 years and those kids are compared to your daughter, coming from the same area. It’s terrible.

The issue is it takes 7593735392x as much organization on the part of the teacher to do it well, and if it’s only halfway implemented (so that unlimited retakes don’t materialize) it is hard to see the benefits of it.

Personally, as a high school math teacher I’m dreading this mandate coming down the pipeline because the logistics are a total nightmare.

I don’t think there is a way to push back with this school board. My plan is to vote straight Republican in the next election, even though I’ve never voted Republican in my life. .But I don’t know of any other way to stop all these plans and things seem to be getting worse, not better. They can’t even select a calendar in a timely manner!

I don't understand how this works for TJ admissions. My 7th grader has a 3 in Algebra I, which is a B. Will he be competing against other students with 93 or 98?

If by administrators you mean "gatehouse", then yes. Individual principals aren't pushing for this.

I agree that the administration is behind this. I'm not sure why, though. FCPS is the traditional school district while APS is the progressive school district that moves on all the new fads in education. Why is FCPS moving so quickly on this?

It seems like presidio is pushing this but I don’t know what he is basing it on. I hope Reid steps in and asks questions about why they are doing this and what the impact will be on teacher workload.

FCPS never met a trend it didn't like. This is an old concept just being recycled. It will generate data that some administrator who doesn't understand teaching can use to justify their job.

I don't know anything about APS other than they pay better than FCPS. I do know that FCPS is constantly cycling through the latest trends to come out of ed schools and the bureaucracies even if they are recycled trends from years ago.

This new grading system sounds like a horrible idea. And it would appear to be a real nightmare for our already exhausted school teachers.

Central office employee here - it is actually being driven by admin and instructional leaders at a handful of schools. Central office staff has been brought in to try to support cohesion across the district, but the push is coming from schools.
