Not sure why you are jumping to suing. Did you look at the contract and make sure your kid took the right steps to cancel? Better yet, have him find it and read you the cancel clause. |
OP, wait a minute. I was looking at joining Onelife this weekend online. It is so-called "Month to Month" online for $49 with zero sign up fee. Sounded good to me. When I read the contract terms, there is an "Initial Period" of 12 months. If you cancel before the Initial Period passes, need to pay 3 months monthly dues. There are a few exceptions like death, etc. I did NOT sign up. Will think about it but would strongly prefer a true month to month contract where I may cancel with 30 days notice. |
PP here. You need to go online and pretend to sign up, go to Step 5 Payment Information. After entering some payment, then the 'contract' terms will appear so you can finally read it. The contract will spell out legally all of the terms including cancellation. Read it and save it. Can use any name/ DoB you like. Do not hit submit.
Pretty non transparent in my opinion by making me submit payment info, which is why I did not sign up (yet). |
This is the exact reason why I do NOT have membership with gyms directly. My employer has Gympass and I can use it at pretty much go to any gyms I want that has agreements with Gympass. I can cancel the membership at anytime ONLINE without hassle.

Your kid can signup at Onelife on a month-to-month if he/she is a college student. My kids use Onelife in McLean location for exactly one month during the winter break. The membership started on 12/22/2022 and automatically expires after 01/22/2023. |
I emailed them in January, February, March and also sent them actual letters cancelling our memberships in full as we had fulfilled the year long contract over one year ago. In April 2024 when they took money from my account again, I was annoyed so off to the bank I went. They were able to get me back 3 months of overcharges and they have been blocked from ever taking money out of my account ever again by my bank whom I have been a client of since 1997. But they are shady as they are still trying to collect money from us, my son received a nasty email which he not only replied to, but I had him forward it to my email so I could reply to the nasty person as well. They may think they can intimidate and bully me, but I will win. I kept copies of all my cancellation emails/letters that were sent out plus I have met recently 10 other people who they have done this to and they have also tried to pull this malarkey to my sisterinlaw not once but twice. They don't know the word CANCEL or how to comprehend that word evidently. Their customer service is awful and you should see all of the complaints against them on BBB website. Just don't give in to them, as my bank put it, "they think they can get it away with it and people are dumb, that is why they do it and that is why we keep blocking them from other client accounts. |
I would like to hear Onelife's half of this story. Methinks there is more to it and it's probably quite spicy! |
Your kid screwed up, a company wants to enforce terms of a contract, and you think there is a class action suit? Pay the damn bill. |
Yep. I joined Onelife 1.5 years ago. After 1 year (terms of contract) I emailed them to cancel; they cancelled it no problem, no follow up needed. OP has something else going on. |
