If needed how do we start the 504 process? Especially at the beginning I think she’ll need support from school to not eat things she can’t anymore. This is so stressful and knowing I’ll not have a lot of control at school is even more so. Anyone have experience?

Write a letter to the counselor requesting an 504 Eligibility Meeting and attach the doctor’s report confirming dx and his recommendations for accommodations.

What would you request? A lunch aide? Or just documentation of the condition?

Seriously, OP? An individual lunch aide to watch your child eat?

You and your daughter will learn how to manage this over time. It can be challenging but it’s easier in some ways than an allergy since an accident doesn’t result in an ER visit.

+1. DC brought lunch elem through high school. In middle and high would sometimes get ice cream or chips from the cafeteria. Other than that if I knew there was a special treat or pizza day in Elementary I’d arrange to send an alternate.

Celiac parent here. Don’t ask for a gluten free table. Celiac is isolating enough socially please don’t make it worse. Send in a packed lunch. Schools make it clear kids should not share food so you should have no issue. For class parties, just make sure you send in GF cupcakes or another treat.
