Not PP, but I know of an overdose today, from a student who thought they were vaping cannabis cartridges. It was laced with fentanyl. Luckily action was taken very quickly. |
| I have a co-worker whose adult son died of fentanyl laced joint and died. |
I think any CVS in DC will give it to you for free. Also, there are lots of other places you can get it in DC; https://dbh.dc.gov/page/where-can-i-get-naloxone-dc |
This was an excellent article and a great contribution to the wellbeing of society. None of us want to believe it will be necessary in our families and we all want to believe we won’t need it. Sharing about the necessity and the ability to engage in lifesaving care if we are prepared is a gift to us all. |
| A friend's teenage cousin just passed away from taking a pill. Her family is in absolute shock. A good kid that made a bad decision. |
|
Thx Op. I'm going to get some the next time I pass the CVS on Ct that has it.
I have 2 teens in upper NW, As far as I know they are not doing drugs-they are A students at a top private, attend youth group and church, hang out with a geeky crowd, etc. Good kids. but you never know. |
Top private? So what? |
| NP here, is there a training course that I can take with my teenage kids onNarcan administration? Seems like the my should teach this in Health class at school! |
Ooops, disregard, I just watched the video |
| I tucked Narcan in my daughter’s “special” medical kit when she went to college. We went over administration. It’s benign if administered to someone not actually suffering an opiate overdose. |
Good thing to do. One thing many don’t realize is that one dose of NARCAN is not a fix. It wears off. Need to call paramedics and maybe re-administer. |
Absolutely. And people coming back, so to speak, are not always as grateful as you might expect. |
| If you come across an unconscious person, when do you try CPR and when do you use Narcan? |
You don’t perform CPR on an unconscious person unless they are not breathing. In many cases, compressions only are fine. You would look for signs that an opioid was taken. 911 can walk you though this. |
I meant compressions alone are okay even if they need CPR. Many unconscious people are breathing fine on their own. |
