I don't get it either

You don’t get the song? Or how it applies to someone obsessing over whether to enroll at Walls instead of BASIS?

OP here. Sooooo ….dance with the girl that brought you? (I can’t believe nobody (with personal knowledge/experience) has actually responded to my questions yet!)

Most BASIS parents don’t post on DCUM. Why not talk with other known BASIS parents? You can reach out to the Boosters to find out who to talk to. Most high school parents know someone who left for Walls and probably could put you in touch.

A lot of former Basis kid go to Walls. I’m sure there are some who are happy to talk about switching

This is misinformation. Most of my child's African American friends did not get into Walls and acceptance was higher among whites.

BASIS did a high school presentation the other night - I was particularly impressed with the college counseling they provide and assistance with targeting schools and preparing applications. Does Walls have a similar program/college counselors that provide the kids with a lot of guidance?

In our experience, neither school is fantastic where college counseling goes. BASIS affords kids more counselor time than Walls, but that doesn't necessarily mean that their counseling is better. BASIS did not encourage applications to a couple programs admitting in the single digits that our student got into (we did almost all the legwork ourselves). BASIS puts too much emphasis on GPA and test scores in helping kids prepare college lists, not enough on interesting backgrounds, initiative and personal preferences.

Not so sure about that. This class looks to be close to 50/50.

Can we please dispense with the anecdotal "my friends white/black friends" garbage? The data will speak for itself.

Walls is 51% white and 49% non-white.

And 24% of the “non-white” population is Black. That’s hardly a 50/50 split.

Huh? No one is saying the school is 50% black.

This poster is correct. We’ll have count day data soon enough.

Your reliance on you own personal experience is misinformation. Just because you know a few blacks kids that didn’t get in means nothing.

The school is very diverse and has plenty of black kids.
