When else would you like the two half days for parent conferences? Or are you the type who wouldn’t come anyway and just use the time for a 4 day weekend?

MCPS used to do conferences the beginning of November including Veterans Day.

And you found that less disruptive than the week of Thanksgiving?

It wasn’t even possible this year due to the end of quarter grading and Election Day.

Middle school will be ok (gets tough in high school to miss)

Maryland also has a minimum number of hours that MCPS much attain.

1,080 generally and 1,170 for public high schools

My high school junior is missing Tuesday to a tour a college (which will be excused). But I wouldn’t worry about missing that week.

I’m wondering how big of a deal it will be for our middle schooler to miss the two half days. I guess I’m worried about unexcused absences and missed work/not being able to make it up because of the unexcused absences. Am I overthinking it?

Everyone is checked out the week of Thanksgiving, enjoy your time away. These days MCPS hardly ever fuzz about a kid missing a few days here and there.

Not the main thrust of this thread but I do wish the county would consolidate some of these half days and just do a longer thanksgiving break if need be.

Half days = very little learning and a lot of hassle for those of us who need after school care for younger kids.

Not really possible unless you want to start earlier or end later.
