How is STEM? Are day students very separated? Is it very high pressure? Is wealth a big part of the culture, or does the need-blind admissions prevent that? |
We are Asian American family too. As the first generation we are very blessed to have the privilege to have our kids to be in PA.Younger ones truly love it. Last weekend was the traditional AE day no need to say how fun it was. PA lost to PEA this year so the red flag was supposed to fly on PA campus for 24 hours but someone stole it. Dean later updated everybody that the flag was returned.

You can take a look at the course catalog. There are a lot of very advanced math and science classes. One thing you won't necessarily see are participation in national or international STEM competitions since that would require travel. One of my DC (a boarder) was very tight with a group of day students and that group was very integrated into the boarding community. It was great for DC as they got invited to sleepovers and home cooked meals often. It is very high pressure. The workload is a lot and the kids push themselves. My kids did feel that students supported each other greatly - they studied together. etc. As expected, there are a lot of very wealthy students on campus, but for the most part, the students don't focus on that. There is awareness of who is wealthy/not wealthy, but money does not play a role in friendships. |
| Very helpful , thank you! |

We are considering Blue Ridge for our son what can you tell me about the school. |
| I find all of the glowing comments about Mercersburg surprising. Maybe it's a great school now. When I grew up in PA in the 90s and that where parents sent their kids if they were giving them serious behavior problems. |
| The Taft School is exceptional! Great community, culture, communication, the strong, academics, athletics, and the arts. They’ve only had six Headmasters since 1890. Full of tradition and beauty. Campus is like Harry Potter. I highly recommend the school. My son is thriving. He plays football, plays the violin, and is a Latin scholar, but interested in business. Very diverse place to serve all students. Excellent leadership! |
I know tons of Taft grads and they all loved the school. A good friend of mine was a fac brat and I’d visit her there a lot in high school. Taft always struck me as a fun and warm place. |

Awful place! |
And GDS used to be for stoners. Just saying. |
Same. Loved my time at Exeter in the 90s. However, I send my kids to public school. My terrific education didn’t steer me to big money, but to do-gooder work. Caveat emptor. |
| Love St George's in RI!! Beautiful campus, amazingly fun opportunities with their Geronimo boat |
NP. One of the meanest families and girls from DC went there. |
also Tucker Carlson. Pass. |
Another vote for Taft. That place is a gem. Beautiful campus and athletic facilities. Academically rigorous but puts out nice, well-rounded kids. Lot of high flier parents there but it somehow holds on to a down to earth vibe. |
