Agree with this. Good for OP. MCPS is doing such a terrible job teaching our kids Math and Language Arts (just look at our scores). Let’s focus on that and let parents teach their kids about sex. |

This. |
No it's a state requirement. What do you not understand about that? |
Why would they get pregnant? Why are they idiots? I am not the OP, but my child knows everything she needs to know about the biology of reproduction and most importantly about abstinence. Does MCPS teach abstinence? If not, we are not interested. |
Why can't they just sit out the class, which it seems most think is ridiculous. |
This makes the point that they do need sex. Abstinence is not the most important thing. |
As has been stated several times already on this page, taking the course is a state requirement. MCPS does provide parents with the chance to opt out of the family life lessons specifically, but not the whole course. |
Thank you, dear poster, I needed that laugh. |
| OP asked a very simple question. |
Under Maryland regulations, abstinence is literally the most important thing. "Beginning no later than grade 7, teaching shall emphasize that refraining from sexual activity is the best method to avoid sexually transmitted infections, including HIV, and unintended pregnancy." https://casetext.com/regulation/maryland-administrative-code/title-13a-state-board-of-education/subtitle-04-specific-subjects/chapter-13a0418-program-in-comprehensive-health-education/section-13a041801-comprehensive-health-education-instructional-programs-for-grades-prekindergarten-12 |
