Do the AO’s think so?

Most kids do SAT so there must be reasons they opt for the ACT..

Explained above. Often strongest students take the ACT.

Think the opposite, no one takes ACT if they score well on SAT, at least in this region.

That makes no sense. The free in-school SAT isn’t until junior spring. Most top kids have already chosen their test before then and prepped for it. My DC liked the ACT better and took it already. For kids with high processing speeds, it’s a good choice. DC will still take the in-school SAT. DC might end up submitting one or both.

Most locall kids have exposure to the SAT via the PSAT administered in 10h grade.

Stop trying to make fetch happen. So what? Kids who are on top of things will take both mocks in spring of 10th grade regardless.

The colleges literally all say they don’t care which test is submitted.

That alone makes me think that the ACT might be better since it's staying paper based and same format.

Less variability and my kid hates the progressive test thing

Yeah. Not thrilled about my Freshmen being a guinea pig for the new format. My Junior was one and done this Fall with ACT. Hopefully, his brother is the same.

Pretty sure it starts next winter for the current sophomores

There is still a historical alignment where the East Coast is highly biased towards to SAT and the Midwest to the ACT. East Coasters who are taking the ACT are generally going to be the ones that are being more proactive on testing overall.

That’s correct. This year’s sophomores will be the domestic test cases, unless they finish testing junior fall. Overseas digital testing starts sooner.

Pretty sure it is already in pilot locally.

Not sure, know someone whose student had signed up for a fall test date and later told that it was pilot, so they wound up adding a test date for normal sat. Their kid was a junior so took both, I believe.

Pretty sure it is already in pilot locally.

This is just totally wrong There has historically been a regional thing - kids in the midwest took the ACT, kids on the coasts took the SAT - but that history is why schools now accept them equally. Back in the day decades ago, the Ivies and other competitive schools were hinky about the ACT, but that weird regional bias has passed on. You should figure out which test works better for your kid and then have them take it. All schools now accept either, and your kid 100% will be better on one than the other.
