The best vanilla ice cream

Anonymous
I'm not really a vanilla sort of girl, BUT I can say that Graeter’s Madagascar Vanilla Bean was really delicious this summer.

I've also enjoyed Tillamook and Turkey Hill All Natural.

Häagen-Dazs, so simple and clean. Cream, Skim Milk, Cane Sugar, Egg Yolks, Ground Vanilla Beans, Vanilla Extract.
Even Graeters has Carob Bean Gum and Guar Gum.

I prefer lighter milk ice cream over creamy custard.

Don’t typically think HD is anything special but every time I try their vanilla bean I’m like “damn that’s good!” It reminds you vanilla is an actual flavor, and I can pronounce all of the ingredients: cream, milk, sugar, egg yolk, vanilla bean, vanilla extract.

No I don’t work for Häagen-Dazs lol.

Me too! Also I’m allergic to eggs so limited

CoolHaus. I bought it to use as a topping, then liked it so much it’s become a favorite.

Trader Joe's French Vanilla Ice Cream. I love a custardy, golden vanilla.

Häagen-Dazs. Look at the list of ingredients. It is as pure as you can get with no filler or artificial flavors.

You could probably make the argument for a boutique vanilla ice cream but it will also be twice the cost and I've never found it worth the extra money over Häagen-Dazs vanilla.

The thread is about the best vanilla ice cream in terms of taste. Not ingredients.

I agree. I've tried the Tillamook and despite liking some of their other flavors, was really disappointed.

I like smooth, creamy ice cream and Costco's is that, plus a nice rich vanilla flavor.

You obviously haven’t tried some of the other brands mentioned.

Have you tried the Costco brand?

Yes, have YOU tried Graeter’s or a Blue Bell?

I've had Graeter's, in Ohio in a couple of their locations. Although not vanilla, but their chocolate chunk is hands down one of my favorites. Do DMV stores carry Graeters? And I don't think I've seen Blue Bell in stores here.

Graeters is the bomb! Top rated in the nation. It’s next level ice cream so not widely available. Blue Bell is only in the south and second best.
Neither you can find here, these people haven’t had ice cream till they’ve had these.

How I miss Frusen Glädjé! A full discussion would derail this thread into other flavors, but I continue to be sad that they lost the weirdly-spelled faux-Scandinavian premium ice cream stakes. Their mocha chip was incredible.

For vanilla, I like both HD varieties, but I agree with OP that their Vanilla Bean is something special. There's something about that texture that takes it to the next level.

The perfect, simple, creamy, not-too-sweet vanilla of recent times was Stoneyfield, for the short time that they made ice cream before shutting that down and reverting to just yogurt.

It’s not made so it would not be the best vanilla ice cream.

I’m not that poster but one of the other Kirkland fans. I haven’t tried Graeters but have tried blue bell and basically every other high end brand available in the DMV (and eat a lot of ice cream when traveling). Graeters says it’s available at Harris teeter so I’ll get some and check back. But if you haven’t actually tried Kirkland premium vanilla, you shouldn’t knock it. It’s really good.
