Idaho Universities prohibited from referring or distributing birth control

If you actually want to send your kid to school in a low opportunity conservative state:

- There are online mail in prescription services (pill club is a popular one)
- DC, MD, and VA require extended birth control insurance coverage

They’ll come for that next. Only 8 House Republicans voted to codify access to birth control, and at least two of them will be gone next year.

pretty much

Our current best options are in:
VA - homestate, watching very closely
PA - watching closely
NC - watching closely
NJ
RI
MA
IL
2 options in Toronto (woohoo, Canada)
One possibility in NY, but not exactly what we are looking for

Hoping to be able to add a MI option after November

+1 and it seems to be an almost daily occurrence.

There are plenty of college students in Idaho and it is completely legitimate to discuss the conditions they face.

What about the west coast (WA, OR, CA)? It looks like MN and VT are OK, too, if you can handle the cold. Is there a reason MD is not there?

Also, please don't think this will stop with Idaho.

OK is not ok at all.

Wow. I went to BYU in Utah, so Mormon central, and we could buy birth control from the pharmacy there. Insurance didn’t cover it but we could otherwise get it easily. I assume it’s still that way.

Idaho is nuts.

I know, sorry, was playing a bit. I’m from Oklahoma and it is getting really draconian there. I shouldn’t make light of it.

The very idea that a person of college age (1) lacks knowledge of the means and methods of contraception; and/or (2) lacks the wherewithal to obtain the same if desired is frankly laughable.

Worth noting that this isn’t just about provision of birth control or health care settings—employees of the University of Idaho cannot talk about abortion in birth control in “anything other than neutral language.” This affects professors, everyone. Abortion and birth control can’t be discussed in classes.

Also last week the state of Florida said in a court filing that the speech of professors at state universities is state speech and thus can be limited by the state. If this view is validated, the state will be able to regulate and control what professors at Florida state schools teach.

Also, please stop calling it Taliban or Sharia law. This is 100% an American movement that dates back to our Puritanical founding and has been advanced by white evangelical Christians for decades.

Yes, those states are also currently "safe" for women. West Coast is really far, though. I did investigate some schools for her out there, but I just don't think they will work. Trust me, I have looked for schools that fit what she wants/needs across the country. It is too bad that the few MD schools aren't going to work for her-they are generally closer to home than the VA schools we are considering. There was one school in NH that looked like a good possibility, but pandemic cuts have cut the program she wanted.

I at one point had a one school each in CO, NV and NM on a preliminary list.

“Standard birth control pills will reportedly still be distributed at student health centers, which are administered by Moscow Family Health, not the university itself.”
