Does anyone's kid actually go to Northwood HS?

Blair is requested the most, then Wheaton. Not sure of the order of the others. We are an Einstein family and perfectly happy with it. Older 2 sons at College Park (honors program) now. Youngest son to graduate IB this year and wants Georgetown.

We've been looking at Einstein and Blair mainly, but TP/Blair neighborhoods are either too expensive or don't seem to have a lot of kids around (we have very limited experience with the area though). Our kids seem to be leaning towards STEM like they're parents, so the arts programs at Einstein don't excite us much.

Wheaton seems like it has a nice building and the engineering program peaks our interest, but we haven't really liked any of the neihborhoods we've looked at.

We also have no real interest in the Bethesda /Chevy Chase area, mainly because we are too poor, but also because we both went to majority white high schools and both experienced a lot of racism and privilege/lack of accountability with our peers. Not trying to offend anyone, that was just our experience and we're hoping to give our kids something else.

We're zoned for Forest Knolls and love it, but we know families in the Highland View neighborhood which is zoned for Northwood too and it's also very popular.

I have lived in one of the neighborhoods you mentioned for two-plus decades and can easily say: focus on the elementary school and neighborhood/home that you want for now. Schools change. Boundaries change. Kids change. The world changes. Forest Knolls has always been an excellent school. Wonderful families and teachers there.

Welcome!

Neighborhoods around Sligo Creek Elem and SSIMS feed to Northwood. Lots of great neighborhoods.

We've been really happy with Kennedy and their IB program. Class sizes are small, teachers are all dedicated, the school is well-run. It won't get a lot of love here because people are terrible snobs, but it's worth mentioning as another option.

Northwood was actually our third choice after Kennedy and Einstein... And we live in the Blair cachement. I recommend visiting the schools and talking to the teachers as opposed to worrying about the hype you read on these boards.

For my 8th grader in the DCC our HS preferences are Northwood middle college, then Kennedy IB, then Einstein, then Wheaton, then Blair.
