Why am I the only one wondering why OP is trying to do this for her HS kid instead of the kid himself?

Not every 9th grader is the same... not every 9th grader would feel comfortable challenging the authorities in a new country, with an education system they do not understand... maybe the 9th grader asked already, but was ignored. We don't know.

Parent your own child, since you are the one who understands their abilities and comfort level. Stay out of other people's business if you have nothing helpful to offer.

It's Northwood.

They are still accepting local students for MC2.

I always have better luck contacting the content specialists directly about course placement. So the French or foreign language specialist to ask if your son can be placed in a higher class / be given a placement exam. And math content specialist for math. Then you go back to the counselor or administrator (we have an administrator too who I found helpful to get the attention of the counselor) and tell them the content specialist approved your kid for x and the counselor just have to make sure there’s a spot available and move your son over.
