You’re not alone. A lot of people like Elrich which is why he won the primary and will be re-elected in a landslide in November.

DCUM is as representative of local political sentiments as it is of average household income. That is, it isn’t.

In DCUM-land, Elrich is an abomination and people clutch their pearls at anyone who earns less than $300K.

In the real world, the average Joe and Jane Montgomery feel neutral-to-ok about Elrich and make a combined $110K, drive a 10 year old Prius or a Honda Civic, have a condo in Wheaton and shop at Costco.

Just a reminder: Elrich's margin over Blair was way smaller than the last time.

So, "a lot of people" also don't like Elrich.

More people liked him than the other choices. He also faced an onslaught of negative campaigning that is historically unprecedented for the county and local elections in Maryland generally. It is really interesting that even in a partisan Democratic primary where only the most motivated vote, the outcome proved that Twitter is not real life.

You are discounting the power of the union vote / that’s the only thing that helped Elrich eek out these wins. Just compare him to Leggett or Duncan. You can’t - he is a dolt but he’s a union dolt so he won. Simple as that.

You insinuate that some voters are more important than others. I would guess you’re a Riemer voter, with that superiority complex. Problem is that every vote counts the same, whether they are union members, anti-union techno-liberal urbanists, or a nurse in Gaithersburg. More voters liked him than the other options. That’s how elections are won.

Downtown Silver Spring is covered in FOR LEASE signs. It will only get worse from here.

Riemer supporters all underestimate how unpopular Riemer is.

This county gets what it deserves. A whole bunch of super-smart people who can only see their pet project trees and have no clue what's happening to the forest.

I’m simply saying Elrich’s an old school pol who knew he needed to rubber stamp any union wish (hello COVID OT) in order to win re-election (and frankly signaled he was going to do this in order to get elected). This is just a fact - and those union votes likely made the difference both times (and I would argue they ARE more important than your Gaithersburg nurse’s vote because the fix was in from Rennie and the union to block Reimer at any cost.. if I’m not mistaken they even protested at Reimer’s house when they crossed him. BTW: I left MoCo years ago and just like to watch from the sidelines…I would have been a Blair voter, though for job growth.

Sorry meant to say because those union voters turned out to vote…they are reliable and consistent and basically a you scratch my back folks…

Porportionally less people liked Elrich than last time. It's interesting that in such a progressive area, a progressive barely eeked out a win.

You are insinuating that there is something nefarious about voting for people who represent your interests. That is like the foundational principle of democracy.

Nope, not allowed.

People should write in his name anyway as a protest vote. The only actual progressive candidate in the race. If it wasn’t for the former Republican Blair spending millions in a quixotic losing campaign Riemer would have certainly won.

I disagree, I think Reimer running guaranteed Elrich's win. Next time, there needs to be 1 and only one alternative to Elrich in order to beat him.

Vote for Sullivan, like me.

That's how Elrich gets beat.

We will see whether the FOP puts its money where its mouth is. I don't see them doing much for the general election. Their vocal support would actually help, but they don't want to piss off Elrich.

Putting politics aside, it’s deeply funny to me how hysterical Elrich’s opponents are about him, while also being so ridiculously incompetent, embarrassing themselves and ruining their reputations in the process.

Blair has now spent $11 million of his own money to lose twice. Steve Silverman and “Progressives for Progress” wasted millions more of developer $ and utterly failed. Same with those Takoma Park clowns Adam Jentleson and Eric Saul behind “Affordable Montgomery”. Riemer has destroyed whatever political future he may have had. Same with Nancy Floreen before him. George Leventhal spends his days as a troll on Twitter. Casey Anderson is going to lose his job. And the Washington Post, who faults Elrich for not understanding business, is losing money.

Elrich is absolutely undefeated. It’s a crazy record.
