Calc AB vs Calc BC

Anonymous
My TJ kid took the equivalent of Calc AB junior year and Calc BC senior year - agree that there was some overlap but he truly got a more solid foundation than doing BC junior year - breezed through multi var and is now an astrophysics major.

Also, lower stress levels for HS math are not a bad thing, IMO - his friends who took BC junior year were really stressed out much of the time - what is the point of that?

If your child is considering a STEM major/career, why not get them a solid and comprehensive foundation in calc?

Why? My kid is taking BC this year after AB last year. I encouraged it. In math, there is nothing quite like practice and I live that she is reinforcing concepts again.

+1
I don't think you plan to take both as a matter of course, but if AB was challenging and you don't feel like you absorbed the content well, BC is a great follow-up option. Especially if you plan to take credit for the AP exam in college and get placed at a higher level of Calc.

Taking BC after taking AB is not wise
